As an extremely busy groundworks company, we own and run an extensive fleet of construction plant equipment that is employed across the many projects that we have running at any time.
With work underway on different sites across the UK, it has become increasingly important to know exactly where our kit is located. To help us keep track of our plant and machinery on site, we have invested in Syrinx 365, a third party software solution offered by Point of Rental Software UK. The new windows based system allows us to efficiently manage the utilisation of the fleet, locate machines quickly and more importantly, be able to monitor the day to day running costs of machinery on each project.
Having the entire fleet trackable through the software ensures we are able to quickly identify available equipment that can be transported between new project and sites where work is commencing and when further plant support is required on other contracts.
Integrating Syrinx into the day to day running of the business helps us to better control our site machinery charges by identifying available machinery within our own fleet and thus minimising the need to hire in additional equipment.
The software has become particularly useful in helping us to provide more accurate machinery operating costs on the projects that we have completed. In turn, we use this information to enable us to work out expected usage costs for the new tenders, projects and contracts that we are quoting for.
Managing Director of M & T Midlands, Matthew Greevy commented “Having so many machines at work across the country has given us operational headaches of keeping track of where each piece of kit is located”. “Before we invested in Syrinx, we used a wall planner to track each piece of equipment, which was difficult to maintain and when we needed machines to move to new projects, this became hard to manage and resulted in us hiring additional machinery, even though we had spare capacity within our own fleet”.
Matthew continued, “We now have much better traceability of the equipment and can also keep better track of how long the kit has been on particular jobs, allowing us to work out the operational costs of the different machines used on that project”. “This is extremely useful and having the historical costing information will help us in the future cost each job more efficiently”.
